Thanks for this. I’ve been searching for an accurate way to describe spirituality in a non-religious sense, and you NAILED it. (no pun intended)
Good, right? My favorite line was “It’s the attempt to transcend the mundane, sleepwalking experience of life we all fall into, to tap into the wonder of being a conscious and grateful thing in the...

On Being Awake
Source HERE.
““Spirituality” has wildly different meanings to different people. When a Christian friend asked several years ago how we achieved spirituality in our home without religion, I asked if she would first define the term as she understood it.
“Well…spirituality,” she said. “You know—having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and accepting him into your life as Lord and...

Gallup Poll: 46% of Americans Are Creationists
This is embarrassing, depressing and terrifying. The overall 46% is horrible, but it’s the 25% of POSTGRADUATES and 46% of college grads that really astonishes me. Seriously? How can we be letting people graduate from college and not know basic science?? You know what, strike that. How can over 50% of kids just out of high school not know basic science in this country? Grrrrr…....

Your son is a better kid than I ever was. I’m just speechless. I knew you were doing your parenting right, but this is… GAHHH. My hope for the future, that’s what your son is.
LOL. He’s better than I ever was, too. So. Much. Better. :-)

Better than me.
May I brag for just a moment? And yes, this is going to be one of those “mommy posts,” sorry…
There are a few kids in my 7 year old’s class that are bullies (we’ll call them ‘B’ and ‘Z’). They’ve caused problems for just about every other kid in the class, including my son. There has been action taken and things have improved...

How many of you IMMEDIATELY started singing the rest of that song? Catchy, right? It’s on a VeggieTales video the grandparents have and my son got it stuck in his head.
My 7-year old: MOM! I have that stupid song in my head!
Me: Yeah. Thanks. Now I have it stuck in my head, too.
My son: Well, can we change the words or something? How about…

drunken-rambling replied to your post: just wondering, but have you read the Bible?
I read it all the way through once as an atheist, but by then I was already familiar with it from the first two times. It’s ok, but there’s a reason most of its literary influence came at the point of a sword, not a critic’s recommendation.
Ha! I will be stealing that line… FYI. :-D

axiomaticallyalyssa replied to your post: just wondering, but have you read the Bible?
My english teacher (who is actually a Christian) said that the bible is the most contradictory and inconsistent piece of literature created (he didn’t say it was fiction though).
That is partially why I’ve never re-read it… it was a tough, usually boring, very inconsistent read back when it was The...

thehungryhungryemo asked: As a little kid with a complex family, I recall having to rehearse stories and practice lies to tell strangers and friends and family members for almost every situation. I remember how hard it was to have that kind of pressure put on very small shoulders. sheleanstotheleft asked: Hey there, regarding secular parenting, what do you do for the holiday season?
longgone-andmoved-on asked: I don't know much about how you teach him to think but I'm just guessing. Technically by telling him God isn't real, you're telling him WHAT to think, not how. I mean, HOW would be more telling him that there is different stuff out there, theism, atheism and agnosticism and then letting him decide for himself. I mean no offense whatsoever, I think it's a cool parenting...

I Believe in Thor
My 7 year old son: Mom? Thor is a god, right?
Me: Right. In Norse mythology, he was the god of thunder.
My son: And he was really strong and he could fly and fight and he protected people, right?
Me: I think so, yes. I don’t know a lot about Norse mythology, but I think he was generally a good guy that protected humans.
My son: And he was huge. And he had a super powerful...
